Hi,
Recently, I asked you if your career is future-proofed and challenged you to consider learning the skills most often listed in future-of-work trend reports.
My confidence was crushed when I saw how easily AI could replace my content marketing skills. But once I got over feeling sorry for myself, I decided to build Career 2.0—leveraging the skills I already have while adding new ones. 🫡
In the age of AI, it’s less about the profession you choose and more about building a "skillset portfolio". Skillset portfolios are more flexible and easier to adapt, while changing careers entirely is much harder. Multi-potential people might be thriving in the future, yay!
Reports like the WEF suggest that AI will replace millions of jobs, but it will also create millions of new ones. So it's not all doom and gloom, there will be plenty of new opportunities!
The solution? Learning the skills for both the future and today. Below, I’m sharing Coursera courses* where you can acquire these skills, taught by experts at top universities and educational institutions.
Steal my study plan:
💆🏻♀️ Adaptability
Learning How to Learn: Powerful Mental Tools to Help You Master Tough Subjects (Deep Teaching Solutions)
- I wish this course had been taught in school! There are more effective ways to learn, and this course shows you how to master any subject you choose. It's incredibly popular, and I can't wait to take it.
🗣️ Communication
The Art of Negotiation (University of California, Irvine) or Successful Negotiation: Essential Strategies and Skills (University of Michigan)
- Learn practical negotiation skills you can apply to all areas of your life. If you feel like people are walking all over you and you’re not getting what you want, the ability to negotiate might be what you’re missing.
🧠 Critical Thinking & 🧪 Experimentation
Introduction to Logic and Critical Thinking Specialization (Duke University) or Creative Thinking Tools for Success and Leadership Specialization (Imperial College London)
- Critical thinking is essential in today’s world, where misinformation and disinformation are plaguing our lives. You can choose either the full 7-course specialization or any individual course.
👩🏻💻 Entrepreneurship
Innovation: From Creativity to Entrepreneurship Specialization (University of Illinois)
- Learn to be creative and innovative, and develop an entrepreneurial mindset to adapt to today’s uncertain world. You can take the full 7-course specialization or pick individual courses that interest you.
Global Challenges in Business Specialization (University of Illinois)
- If you’re interested in doing business globally, this course is for you. It’s more suited to traditional businesses, so it’s ideal if you want to work for large multinational companies. If you're a freelancer or solopreneur offering services, this might not be necessary.
🧬 Human Behavior & Psychology
Social Psychology (Wesleyan University)
- Ever wonder why people do what they do? Me too! 😂 I took this course years ago, and I want to enroll again because it gave me a deeper understanding of human behavior. We could all use a little more empathy these days…
💪🏻 Resilience & Patience
Positive Psychology: Resilience Skills (University of Pennsylvania)
- The world can be overwhelming, and it probably won’t improve soon. The good news is that humans are incredibly adaptable. With resilience skills, we can manage even the toughest times with greater ease.
🤖 Tech Skills
Google AI Essentials and Google Prompting Essentials
- No technical background needed! These courses are easy to follow and beginner-friendly. You’ll learn how to use AI for work, putting you miles ahead of people who haven’t yet started learning AI.
Which course are you going to take first? Lemme know!
Wishing you happy holidays (if you celebrate) and I’ll see you next year!
